Five Gold Rings
This irresistibly quirky show is full of panto-style fun, ideal for KS2. Two children learn to put aside their differences and recognise each other’s strengths. In so doing, they discover the true ‘gold’ that can be given at Christmas!
The show begins with a school carol concert that is almost over! The children are singing their way through ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’, but when they get to the words 'five gold rings’ the song gets stuck: "Five, five, five, five..."
In something like a time warp, Matt and Lucy (who are far from friends!) find themselves whisked away to a strange land, where they meet Mr. Partridge of pear tree fame! He tells them that everything is in a muddle because the fifth gold ring is missing. The Turtle Doves are squabbling, the Calling Birds are glued to their phones and the French Hens are plain eccentric! With the help of three 'assistants' (Fiver, Goldy and Ringo), Matt and Lucy must find the fifth ring and return everything to normal.
"A very good inclusive show, giving lots of opportunities for children to be involved. It can be staged at either a minimal or ostentatious level! Our pupils loved the songs; the tunes for the new ones are very catchy, and it's good to have some traditional material included as part of the package." ~ P Allen, Deputy Headteacher, W Yorkshire.

Review by Jim Brown - Teacher, Armagh, N Ireland.
We have used three musical plays from Starshine Music for our Christmas productions - 'Five Gold Rings', 'Miracle Child' and 'Jesus' Christmas Party'. All three were easily staged with great stage instructions, backing tracks and photocopiable songs and scripts. I would recommend Starshine Music for any Primary School Christmas production!Unfolding Adventure.
Review by Brian Meyer - Headteacher, East Sussex
The story is intriguing and on the children's wavelength, with simple but effective opportunities for humour. It's nice to have the carols linked into an unfolding adventure.Comic Adventure.

Review by Avril Pattinson - Drama Specialist, Exeter, Devon
This comic adventure provides good opportunities for children with differing levels of ability to participate and have fun. The children love the music, there is great scope to interpret the 'fantasy' characters, and the scenes build up well to a great finale.Very Good Show.
Review by Clive Rich, Headteacher, Newport, Wales
This is a very good show, easy for audiences to follow, and having a well known theme. It can be adapted for any age group from 7-11 years, and even beyond into KS 3/4. The music could be arranged for a live band to play in a secondary school setting.Good Inclusive Show.

It was extremely good fun indeed, because each and every character included some comedy in their role. Altogether the play went very smoothly, and was a great success.Appropriate Message.

There is a good mix of traditional carols and new songs in the show, and an appropriate message for Christmas within the play.Another Winner!
